The European Glass Container Association (FEVE) reported that glass recycling in Europe is on the rise. According to FEVE, the glass recycling process of 27 EU member states is on the rise. The recovery rate in 2009 was 67.42%, which is a significant increase from the 65% in 2008.
In 2009, Belgium and Switzerland ranked first in the EU with a 95% glass recovery rate, followed by the Netherlands (93%), Sweden and Austria with a recovery rate of 90%, and Germany with an 81% recovery rate after Denmark (88%). However, in France, the recovery rate of glass is also 63%, Bulgaria (27%), Romania (22%), Cyprus and Greece ranked at the lowest level of 27 countries with 18% and 15% respectively.
